Outline of what participating in CEQUEL involves for psychiatrists
Any psychiatrist who sees people with bipolar disorder can apply to become a trial investigator. The CEQUEL team and where available, MHRN (Mental Health Research Network) staff, will assist with obtaining regulatory approvals to participate and will provide training in trial procedures.
Psychiatrists retain overall clinical responsibility for people under their care who participate in the trial. This includes arranging pre-treatment where clinically appropriate and ongoing monitoring as well as prescription of trial medicines. The majority of the outcome data will be reported to the Trial Office by participants but psychiatrists will be asked to offer participants a randomisation appointment and follow-up appointments at 12 weeks and 12 months post-randomisation. These appointments can often be incorporated into routine clinical follow-up.
