Self report scales

Mood rating

CEQUEL is designed to compare the effectiveness of trial medicines at reducing depressive symptoms in the short-term and in keeping people free from mood symptoms in the longer term. In order to do this you will be asked to provide weekly self-report ratings on two rating scales:

  • the 5 item Altman Self-Rating Mania Scale (ASRM)
  • 16 item Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS-SR16)

The weekly self-reports will be used to assess how effective the trial treatments control mood symptoms over the 12 month period. Collecting frequent self-reports should ensure that important changes in your mood are not missed because they occur between assessments. You can choose to complete the scales using mobile-phone text messages, web-forms or on paper.  Links to instructions for each mode of completion.

Quality of life and need for additional health and social care services (including medicines other than trial medicines)

CEQUEL will also compare the effects of trial medicines on Quality of Life. Each month you will be asked to complete the EuroQol EQ-5D scale and indicate whether you have had any contact with health and social care services and whether you have been prescribed any new medicines for mood symptoms. You will be able to complete these by mobile phone text-message, web-form or on paper as for the mood-rating questionnaires.
